DATE: Sunday, October 15th
TIME: 9:00 am - 10:00 am
FACULTY: Elise Erickson, PhD, CNM, FACNM

Then the presenter will discuss research from the last 5 years related to PPH in low-risk vaginal birth including data from midwifery led care studies (both hospital and community birth settings) and studies on genetic and epigenetic biomarkers with an eye on individualizing birth care.

Faculty

Elise Erickson, PhD, CNM, FACNM
Elise has been a Certified Nurse Midwife for over 17 years and earned a PhD in 2018 at Oregon Health and Science University where she was a faculty midwife for 8 years. Her research is broadly focused on understanding variation in the physiology governing labor and birth to improve individual care practices. She recently joined the University of Arizona College of Nursing and is conducting research on epigenetic and genetic variation in oxytocin function for improving the use of oxytocin and addressing postpartum hemorrhage. She also studies the role of epigenetic aging in maternal morbidity as well as the use of wearable devices for monitoring maternal autonomic/ hormonal physiology during pregnancy.
